VIR UNIS AND SAUL STOKES TO PERFORM AT THE GATHERING IN PHILADELPHIA

(Philadelphia 02-07-00) Ambient groove master Vir Unis and sonic innovator
Saul Stokes will perform in Philadelphia as part of The Gathering Concert Series
on Saturday, March 4th, 2000.

Synthesist, drummer, sound sculptor and electronic groove creator Vir Unis is
one of the newest voices in the world of atmospheric/tribal/ambient music.
Vir Unis has collaborated with Steve Roach and Ma Ja Le, contributing ever-
evolving "fractal" grooves. In his own music, he further explores these organic
rhythms, underpinned by mist-shrouded synthesizer atmospheres.

Presently residing in New York City, Vir Unis (aka John Strate-Hootman) has
released The Drift Inside (Green House), his first full length solo album.
On the new CD Strate explores his passion for experimental sound sculpting.

The Vir Unis performance at The Gathering will be his first ever on the east
coast of the USA and reflect his talent for exploring through music, the areas
of space within and outside of the audience.

Opening for Vir Unis will be Philadelphia based Saul Stokes. Performing on
custom designed, hand built synthesizers and modern sampling technology, Stokes
will create a sonic landscape somewhere between the floating textures of Vintage
Spacemusic and the focused rhythms of Modern Ambient.

The Gathering with Vir Unis and Saul Stokes will take place at 8:00pm on
Saturday, March 4th, 2000 at The Cathedral, 38th & Ludlow, Philadelphia, PA.
