The Extra Galactic Sessions Pt 5
Interzonal travels between genres, styles and energy levels has now landed Arjen Schat back in the sphere of Spacemusic. Conjuring a nebulous etheric realm from a solid state minimalism The Extragalactic Sessions Part 5 (52:15) further refines his mystique. Once his synthesizers are adequately warmed up and notes begin circling and cycling through the air the work seems simply to just flow out of him. Each of the six pieces are essentially comprised of multiple layers of arpeggiated chords. While creamy lead lines narrow in on the truth, intrigue builds as strands of shuffling sequencer notes echo, expand and contract. A systematic synergy between the building patterns above and receding pulses below confers a kind of mechanized bewitchment to the audience. So, better to let go of the search for order and reason, and allow our minds to intuitively locate the tempos and syncopations that arise and vary throughout - as studious deconstruction of The Extragalactic Sessions Part 5 region by region would surely diminish its cosmic music magic. Somewhere in its sonic, electronic logic this album reveals itself only to the listener - in a vivid, sonorous language of ideas.
