Resplendent in the Light of the Universe Mark Burford
Works by Field Lines Cartographer begin with a cause and end in an experience. On his Resplendent in the Light of the Universe (61:15) Mark Burford transfers cerebral energy onto his modular synthesizers to realize eight tracks full of light and life. The motions of the mind show through and the learned listener derives satisfaction from the received electronic emanations. Resplendent in the Light of the Universe draws you in, but does not tell you what to think; it assumes we already know how to do that for ourselves. An elusive subtlety supplies quiet chords, puzzling pulses and a background hum of cosmic origin, while such dexterous synth-craft is certainly due to its proximity to skill and talent. Built on an optimism that has never failed him, Burford delivers yet another original and inventive album. In shuffling sequencer runs, gently glowing textures and warm-hug synths the arrangements bloom and swell. Under sonic shadows so subtle contour practically vanishes, and we get a fleeting glimpse of the numinous reality underpinning our visible one. Mixing an atmosphere of hope with a healthy dose of Spacemusic yearning the flickering sounds and spatial ratios found throughout Resplendent in the Light of the Universe trip and sing in a new knowing - arriving just when we need them most.
