Electronic Music is the only language able to contain the creative aspirations of Ulises Labaronnie. Recording under the name Sophos his Sending Signals (60:01) lends sonic energy to a most vivid language of ideas. Each of the nine tracks are completely thought through, yet the full flower of each composition seems a spontaneous arrival. While shifting sequencer patterns run through a series of imaginative progressions and digressions, or stops and starts, fervent lead lines reveal meaning in a rising ribbon of melody. The tick-tock timing of the clockwork compositions flows across an impressive range of textures and moods. Freighted with possibility these spirited passages expand and contract over remarkable routes. Warped out echoing chords break down in pulsing arpeggio blips as suspended synth strings detail a build up of charge. Lush harmonies sigh and whisper in celestial concord - with this album's quiet passages giving rise to its most affecting emotional intensity. With so many sounds in motion each captivating composition coalesces ultimately into something meaningful. Full of clarity and concision this confidently cool music plays with unforced tenderness and warmth. Effortlessly excellent, as imaginative as it is expressive, Sending Signals accesses internal currents. A work of surprising effect it means to lead us far beyond tomorrow - to the deepest point of forever.
