Artist: Windy and Carl Album: The Dream House/Dedications to Flea Released: 7 November 2005 | |
Windy and Carl are known for their Post-Rock drone explorations. Using organ, synths, guitar amplifiers, bass guitar, electric guitar, effects pedals and the inherent noise generated by all these instruments, they produce an ambient music that is deceptively complex. Their work ranges from the decibel by decibel wall of sound construction of a beerhall backroom live performance to the comforting dreamtime lullaby in the bedroom before sleep. The Dream House/Dedications to Flea is a double disc set which presents a nuanced mixture of sustaining chords, strumming guitar, E-bow tones, echo, reverb and field recordings. The extended compositions deal with memory and the landscape within. Close listening reveals subtle changes in harmony, texture and volume, but as listeners we should not be too concerned with the process by which this music is made. Windy and Carl create instinctually, interested mainly in their overall sound and the mood or state their music attempts to sustain.
