Seeking, striving, in it with all his heart Todd Stuart Fletcher draws dramatic energy from the American Southwest as he founds a new record label and issues its first release. Futures 1 (44:58) will appeal to lovers of the Contemporary Instrumental as equally as it does those of us seeking music of a more enigmatic scale. Presenting seven tracks, each with a specific musical intent, he moves a septet of moods between otherworldly innocence and unaffected tenderness to a playful luxury and energized waves of tone. Aiming for the high horizons of the spirit Fletcher can become vague - caught somehow by the darker pull of such a compelling current of sound. Amid an impeccable swirl of notes we feel a somber elegance, while further in chords subside in a somnolent haze - offering an atmospheric reprieve that leaves a lasting impression. The sonic designs that emerge out this synthetic dream are in constant motion. Heated by the urgent force of creativity Fletcher works to heighten the symbolic potential of all inflections of Electronic origin. Both beautiful and arresting, Futures 1 is a synth album that aspires to be more. A vitality permeates this music - something that echoes the essence of the artist. His emotions are present in this work, not measured out but flowing. Fletcher's set of thought cycles here are an impressive collection of songs and views from the artist's interior. As listeners we might enjoy the fantasy of living inside this music - that we may uncover the secrets of ourselves, but also enjoy the things that are missing from our world.
