Most people dream while asleep in their bed. Basil Azuria dreams while awake and making music in their studio. The 12 tracks which make up Soil (54:57) play like a dozen divine dreams of a day yet to come. Conjuring a place outside of time their realizations emanate the aspirations of today with an ear towards tomorrow. Rethinking Ambient Music to include new and healing ways to exist, Soil bestows upon the listener the personal narrative of the artist - not too much about where they are from, but plenty about where they are headed. As the murmuring of softer synthesizers send forth sublime sounds and sweet airs, voices amass on high in washes of blurry words and breathy utterances. Out of the ethereal sonic motion of vague vocals and hopeful electronic blooms arises a distinctive sustained atmosphere. One timbre blends into the next, as new moods drift in from nowhere, circulate, then fade into the twilight. In the rise and fall of phonic forms, the constant adjustment to texture and tone, the slow drift of mysterious melodies, Basil Azuria brings to this uncommon aural adventure an authenticity and knowing that few others posses.
