Roaming the cosmos of the mind Craig Padilla and Zero Ohms help us to contemplate what it might be like To Sleep on Stellar Winds (60:02). The five tracks on their fourth collaboration probe celestial territory and draw us willingly into a remarkable realm of astral enchantment. Expressively played and exquisitely produced the character and energy of this work would seem to stray us into another person's dream. In a rush of tranquil tones, fragile fifes and dozing dawn drones To Sleep on Stellar Winds breathes more than manufactures music - as its shimmering synthesizers, luminous strings and sky-high melodies give rise to an ambient sigh of quiet captivation. With so many sounds in motion, from out of this ethereal movement arises easily a wondrous atmosphere of possibility. Fluxing flutes float gently above a torrent of cycling sequencer circuits - thus pacing the narrative to the length of a typical exhalation. It is on this human level that the listener is led across the continent of night, and to a radiant receptivity of beauty. In a collaboration zone of creative exploration, that which is imaginary one moment may become real the next - and suddenly we are in the company of something extraordinary. Often, a view into a new world will provide us with a greater understanding of our own. With its eloquent sonic shadows, impeccable instrumentation and attractive arranging, content are those who seek to dream, to drift, and To Sleep on Stellar Winds.
