The skill with which Isostatic (alias Sean Costello) modulates light and dark, Earth and sky, remoteness and intimacy follows a remarkable beauty of form, drama and expressive depth. His Transient Luminous Events (94:04) presents five longer, looser pieces dependent on a sense of prolonged duration. Producing a significant stillness this album transacts in texture, atmosphere, mood and energy - leaving it to the listener to make meaning from its varied synthesized timbres and tones. Transient Luminous Events contains no discernible rhythms, and yet it feels constantly in motion. Layers of synthesizer notes darken, then, as plush harmonies ascend and recede, glow in transformed sighs of beaming brilliance. From the doleful and desolate, to the captivating and rapt the sonic landscapes migrate out into the ether as gently as they do through the recesses of the mind. With its sustained fields of darkening science zones and formless sonic sensations, to swirling surges of color this work's slow burn, immersive approach is meritorious - meant merely to deepen our days and further the human condition. In this rare realm every sound matters, as each note supports and validates those surrounding it - resolving most fully in the moving of imaginations.
