STAR'S END Fundraiser - 23 February 2025
Chuck van Zyl

Less a particular set of sounds or songs Star's End remains more a practice of listening. Each five-hour edition conjures a zone that feels still, yet continuous - more like a perimeter than a narrative. Conjuring a soundscape stable enough to think inside, the music mix accommodates many levels of listening and attention without enforcing any one in particular. Utilizing a sonic material that seems to surround our existence it is a consistent, trustworthy, identifiable weekly Public Radio product which reflects the highest standards of broadcast.

Somewhere in the midst of the analogue airwaves and digital streaming which Star's End travels along is a signal. Betwixt and between the electronics, atmospheres, textures and tone poems, amidst the craft of my music mix we hope to encounter the human signal. Living with the background of darkness, in every transmission is received a lighted message of confirmation. Each radio-lit night provides the audience with an aural experience meant to enlarge our horizons as it enriches and gives greater meaning to the human spirit.

Every journey with Star's End provides the opportunity to pursue the Public Radio ideal of leading the listener to a place beyond themselves. To journey in our minds with new ideas and profound expressions. To aspire to achieve some measure of excellence - and upon our return seek truth in the new day dawning.

As this music and message is so far ahead of its time only a select few are capable of appreciating the value of a broadcasting endeavor such as ours. In Winter 2025 you informed few are again asked to please take part in the Public Radio enterprise by placing a dollar amount on what this remarkable service is worth and make a contribution.

Giving to Public Radio continues to be a significant gesture. During the broadcast of 23 February 2025 host Chuck van Zyl spent the entire night live on-air in a fundraising effort. Sincere Thanks to the 86 listeners who stayed up, tuned in, and made $8364.00 in donations. Thanks for your generous support!
