Live on Star's End Radio Gray Acres
From wandering worlds and separated suns to the stillness of Earthrise at lunar dusk, the music of Gray Acres directs our attention toward the light in the night. Staying up late to make something beautiful, broadcast brothers Andrew and Michael Tasselmyer on 24 August 2024 performed new live versions of earlier studio tracks - thereafter released as Live on Star's End Radio (57:16). Their weightless work quietly flows from the pleasure of playing. The four tracks/excerpts are each a dramatic gesture, but still contain delicacy. From the bright and teeming to the dark then probing, the unique mix of music ascends along enlivening lines of Ambient beauty. Issuing a silvery beam of lunar tones, the electric guitar parts breathe warmly along contours of curving chords. Transfiguring tones by the imagining and handling of six vibrating steel strings, an impressive range of subdued notes and shaded moods are produced - and sent forth in a drift of imagination. Deepening the drama, bass synth drones rumble in descent. Yet, further inside the expanded minimalistic style, this continuously lulling long-form piece soothes our sleep in minor-key dreams - while maximizing the potential of the airwaves. Their Spacemusic moment turned emotional revelation, the creativity of this duo found traction in the Star's End studio. The audience, at the receiving end of this transmission, in the small hours of the night, travel with new ideas and a lighted message of confirmation. Bestowing a warm and peaceful ambience, listeners attune to the restrained Gray Acres aesthetic. As the subtle shifts seem more substantial, a ray of hope shines in the dark and distant cosmos - fueling our trek to morning.
